EL PASO, Texas – Liberty completed a three-game series sweep over UTEP with an 11-3 victory on Saturday at Helen of Troy Softball Complex.

The Lady Flames improve to 14-15 on the season, including 7-2 in Conference USA play with their seventh straight win. The Miners fall to 9-19, 1-8 in conference games following their seventh loss in a row.

Liberty – 1st INNING – McManus reaches on fielder’s choice, Jessee advances on error, Fox scores, 1-0
Liberty – 1st INNING – Doerr sacrifice fly to left, Norris scores, 2-0
Liberty – 2nd INNING – Carrasquillo homers to left center, Fox scores, 4-0
UTEP – 2nd INNING – Angulo reaches on error, Pagdilao and Hogan advance, Burchard scores, 4-1
Liberty – 3rd INNING – Whatley homers to left center, Strickland scores, 6-1
UTEP – 3rd INNING – Burchard reaches on error, sac bunt, Carranza advances, Leon scores, 6-2
UTEP – 3rd INNING – Hogan grounds out, Burchard advances, Carranza scores, 6-3
Liberty – 4th INNING – Jessee homers to left, 7-3
Liberty – 5th INNING – Lee scores on wild pitch, Whatley and Fonseca advance, 8-3

Turning Point

  • After UTEP scored twice in the third inning to narrow the deficit to 6-3, Liberty scored five unanswered runs, pulling away for the 11-3 victory. 

Notable Numbers

  • Liberty outhit UTEP 12-4 for the game, with the Lady Flames committing two errors compared to one for the Miners. The visitors left 11 runners on base, while the hosts stranded nine.
  • Camden Anders (6-1) earned the win, allowing three hits and striking out three in four innings of relief. Liberty starter Abigail Findlay pitched one innings, followed by two frames from Gabby Mike and four by Anders.
  • UTEP starter Serenity Jacoway (1-4) drew the loss, yielding five runs (four earned) on six hits, walking three in two innings pitched.
  • Maci Strickland batted 3-for-5 with a double, one RBI and one run scored. Alexia Carrasquillo went 2-for-4 with a homer, two RBI and one run scored. Ella Fox batted 2-for-5 with a double and two runs scored. Savannah Jessee went 2-for-2 with a homer, one RBI and one run. Brynn McManus batted 1-for-3 with a double and three RBI, while Savanah Whatley homered, scored twice and drove in two runs.
  • Bri Garcia went 2-for-4 for UTEP. 

Beyond the Box Score

  • Liberty is now 10-1 all-time against UTEP in softball, including 5-1 at Helen on Troy Softball Complex.
  • The Lady Flames hit nine homers this weekend, getting one home run from 11 different batters.
  • Liberty’s 28 runs scored this weekend were its most runs in a three-game conference series since scoring 32 runs at Queens, May 5-6, 2023.
  • Liberty has scored eight or more runs in each of the last seven games, the longest streak of consecutive games scoring eight or more in program history. 

Up Next
The Lady Flames return to the Commonwealth of Virginia for their next five games. Liberty concludes its eight-game road swing on Wednesday at Virginia. Wednesday’s game, which will air nationally on ACC Network, will begin at 8 p.m.
