CLIFTON FORGE, Va. (VR) – Alleghany split singles and took two of three doubles matches to knock off Staunton 5-4. The Cougars went 3-3 in singles.
At the top, Bubby Entsminger rolled 8-1 over Garrett Kane, and Riley Smith backed it with an 8-3 win against Brooks Hansen. Spencer Tallman added the third point with an 8-3 victory over Justin Gao.
Staunton answered in the middle.
Sam Graves defeated Parker Willis 8-3 in match three, Paxton Gasser edged Colton Jones 9-7 in match four, and Mason Shreckhise topped Quinton Harris 8-3 in match five to even it 3-3.
Alleghany took over in doubles.
Match one, Entsminger and Smith handled Kane and Hansen 8-3. Staunton grabbed claimed doubles match two, with Graves and Gasser beating Willis and Jones 8-3. The deciding point came at match three, where Harris and Tallman secured the match with an 8-4 win over Shreckhise and Gao.
