The Sharon Ruritan Club recently held its annual Christmas banquet at the Mountain View Restaurantfor members and guests.
After a delicious buffet the group enjoyed a bit of entertainment with each person guessing the number of M&Ms in a jar and the winner, Johnnie Mize, receiving the prize of the M&Ms.
A fun game of “Yankee Trade,” also known to some as “Dirty Santa,” allowed the exchange of gifts with the possibility of “stealing” someone else’s gift in fun.
David Nicely then entertained the group with his soliloquy of “The Night Before Christmas.”
Zone Governor Al Durham and his wife, Cindy, who will be the 2019 Natural Bridge District lieutenant governor, were guests for the banquet, as were the present Natural Bridge District Governor Johnnie Mize and wife, JoAnn.
Gov. Mize briefly spoke of the reason for the Christmas season encouraging all to give thanks to the Lord for the gift of His Son.
Mize then conducted the installation of Sharon officers, encouraging all club members to continue the work of community service, especially in the Sharon area.
Officers for the 2019 year are the same ones who served for the previous year: President Mike Layton, Vice President Chip Snead, Secretary Linda Archer, and Treasurer David Nicely, and Connie Snook serving as a director.
The Sharon Ruritans plan to continue to serve the community in the same capacity as in previous years.
The Club still experiences a shortage of members able to carry the workload of making funds and distributing donations to existing community organizations, yet the group adopted a budget to continue community service as in previous years.
The next formal meeting of the Sharon Ruritan Club will be in March at which time plans to activate community service projects will be scheduled.
Announcement of the date and time of this meeting will be publicized and all inquiries should be directed to President Mike Layton at 862-2151 or to Secretary Linda Archer at (434) 609-2968.
