The Alleghany Highlands YMCA is featuring a number of courses that are aimed at improving your health. Some of these course offerings and activities include:
•Reverse the Hearse: Classes each Tuesday at 11 a.m., beginning March 19.
Tea Simmons, instructor, is a survivor. She has lived through “reversing the hearse” and helped family members on their way to a healthier lifestlyle.
She will look at foods from A to Z and  how to change your health by eating.
She is certified through the University of Virginia, and she wants to share what she knows.
Classes are free to YMCA members and $5 per class for non-members.
•PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder) support group: Finding strength through adversity. If you, a family member or a friend have been affected by trauma, there is support.

Classes every Tuesday from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., beginning March 19. This is a support group, not treatment based.
You do not have to be a member of the YMCA to participate in this program.
•Chess for Kids at the YMCA: Develop patience, increase IQ, gain confidence, solve problems, evaluate positions, think deeply, visualize results, strategize and plan, compete well.
Easy and fun chess instruction comes to the YMCA Mondays, April 1, 8, 15, 29, May 6 and 13.  Grades 6-12 4:15 – 5:45 p.m.; grades K-5  6:15 – 7:45 p.m.  $59 per person, $49 for each additional brother or sister.
To register, call the ymca at (540) 962-9622 or visit https://alleghanyhighlandsymca.org/youth-and-family/ .
•New Spring Session Gymnastics: With John and Michelle Reed. Thursday evenings, March 28 through May 2, 6:45 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., ages 5-7; and 7:30 to 8:30 p.m., ages 8-11.
