COVINGTON, Va. (VR) – The Alleghany junior varsity baseball team walked it off in the fifth inning, slipping past Lord Botetourt 5-4.

The Cougars struck early. In the first, Ben Skidmore reached on an error that allowed Bronson Shinault to score and tie the game. Moments later, Talin Raether lifted a sacrifice fly to right field, bringing home Skidmore to give Alleghany a 2-1 lead.

Alleghany added another run in the second. Chance Wolfe lined a single to center that scored Jace Cantrell and moved the Cougars ahead 3-1.

In the third, Joel Bradshaw reached on a Botetourt error, allowing Shinault to cross the plate as Alleghany stretched the lead to 4-1.

Lord Botetourt chipped away in the fourth when Bryan Martin singled to center, scoring Ethan Greer to make it 4-2.

The Cavaliers tied it in the fifth. Avery Huffman singled to right field, driving in Wyatt Nicely and Callum McCoy to even the score at 4-4.

Alleghany answered in the bottom half. Zane George grounded a single to center, scoring Landon Boone and giving the Cougars the 5-4 walk-off win.

This marks the Cougars’ second preseason victory. Alleghany shut out Northside last Saturday 6-0 on the road.
