Louise Burks

Louise Richardson Burks, 98, of Salem, Va. passed away peacefully at the home she shared with her daughter on Wednesday, January 2, 2019.
 She was born on Easter Sunday, April 4, 1920 in Canton, Ohio.
Mrs. Burks was a long-time resident of Covington, Va., where she retired from a rewarding teaching career at Covington High School.
 She enjoyed many outdoor activities like hiking, archery, and boating.  She was a world traveler.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 67 years, Howard Richard Burks; son, David Richard Burks; as well as her parents, Eldridge and Ida Richardson; and all her brothers and sisters.
She is survived by her son, Tommy Richard Burks and wife, Linda of North Wilkesboro, NC and daughter, Linda Burks Plunkett from Salem; and one granddaughter, Denise Burks Langston and husband, Wayne of St. Augustine, FL.
A family graveside service will take place at Cedar Hill Cemetery in Covington, Va. with Rev. Buddy Burks officiating.
Friends may visit with the family from 2 p.m. – 4 p.m. on Sunday, January 6, 2019 at the John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home in Salem, Va.
