HOT SPRINGS, Va. (VR) – The Chargers finished third Saturday at the Class 1 Super B/C regional at Bath County High School, qualifying seven for next week’s state tournament. Riverheads High School won the team title with 243 points and five individual champions. Grayson County High School was second with 206.5 points and four titles. Bath County totaled 129 points for third.
Ethan Bryant (21-2) and Tyler Shaver (24-8) led the Chargers with runner-up finishes. Bryant went 2-1 at 165 pounds, advancing to the finals before being pinned in the third period by Eddie Sherlinski of Grayson County. Shaver was 2-1 at 285, falling by pin to Brendon Mabry of Fort Chiswell High School in the championship match. Jeremy Burns (22-6) placed third at 138 pounds, winning four straight matches after a quarterfinal loss to earn his state berth. Four Chargers placed fourth to qualify.
Easton Roberts (5-16) secured his spot at 120 pounds with a 34-second pin of Drake Ward of Riverheads. Jesse Perry (25-10) won three straight after a quarterfinal setback to take fourth at 144. A.J. Woodson (23-7) tech falled Aiden Beeman of Grayson County in the consolation semifinals at 157 to punch his ticket. Azi Tyson (24-9) pinned Gavin Lewis of Galax High School in a consolation semifinal at 215 to advance.
