COVINGTON, Va. (VR) – Alleghany protected the ball and moved it efficiently, earning a Shenandoah District home victory over Riverheads. The Cougars turned it over just seven times and assisted on 10 of their 14 field goals in the first half to build control early.
Talyn Elliott scored 13 of his 15 points before halftime and pulled down a team-high six rebounds for Alleghany. Des Jordan added 14 points, while Kevin Worley chipped in 13. Jordan and Bubby Entsminger recorded six assists each.
Alleghany’s junior varsity picked up a 43-30 win. Jaxon Brewster led with 12 points, six rebounds and three assists. Buddy Leisure-White scored 11 points and had four steals. Mehki Peterson dished out three assists, and Jackson Rickett grabbed four rebounds.
The Cougars are now 13-6 overall, 10-3 in the district.
