STUARTS DRAFT, Va. (VR) – Nick Powell and Carter Nicely won individual championships and Alleghany finished second overall at the Shenandoah District Wrestling Championships held at Stuarts Draft High School.
Powell moved to 32-2 on the season by winning the 106-pound title with two pinfalls, including a third-period pin of Colton Parkulo of Stuarts Draft in the final.
Nicely stayed unbeaten at 37-0, capturing the 175-pound title. He recorded two first-minute pins before earning a 19-4 technical fall over Adam Wimer of Fort Defiance in the championship match.
Alleghany qualified 10 wrestlers for next week’s regional tournament. Advancing along with Powell and Nicely are Levi Wilkerson (113), Dylan Osborne (120), Hayden Wolfe (126), Hayden Wills (132), Tristan Madison (150), Kylan Tolley (157), Jayvon Myers (190) and Parker Osborne (215).
Next up for the Cougars is the Class 3, Region C tournament next Saturday at Rocktown High School in Harrisonburg.
