STAUNTON, Va. (VR) –  Alleghany claimed a sweep of a key Shenandoah District boys’ basketball JV-varsity doubleheader at Staunton. The Cougar varsity, controlled the game early, taking a 37-18 lead into halftime and stretching the advantage to 24 early in the third quarter.

Des Jordan led Alleghany with 20 points, as four Cougars scored in double figures. Bubby Entsminger added 18, Talyn Elliott had 16 and Jalen Raether finished with 14. Tucker Phillips pulled down seven rebounds, while Raether had six boards and five assists, Elliott had six rebounds and Jordan grabbed five.

In the JV contest, led 34-20 after three quarters and survived a late push from previously unbeaten Staunton for a 40-36 victory. Jackson Rickett drilled a go-ahead three with just over a minute left to break a 36-36 tie.

Buddy Leisure-White scored 14 points to lead the Cougars, while Rickett and Jaxon Brewster each added eight.
