City of Covington

Warming Center

Public Service Announcement

As of January 23, 2026, the City of Covington has established a standby warming center for any area residents in the Alleghany Highlands. The warming center will be set up in the council chambers of City Hall, located at 333 W. Locust Street in Covington.

The center has been placed on standby and will be activated if power is lost during this weather event. The center can also be activated upon request. To make this request, contact the Covington Emergency Communications Center (ECC) non-emergency number at (540) 965-6333.

Covington Public Works will be working throughout the storm to keep primary and secondary roads in a condition that allows necessary travel. If you need to get to the warming center and cannot travel to City Hall, contact the ECC, and arrangements will be made to assist anyone in need.
