STAUNTON, Va. (VR) – Alleghany survived two one-point matches to sweep a pair of Shenandoah District wrestling duals Wednesday night, edging Waynesboro 41-40 and Staunton 42-39 at Waynesboro High School.

The Cougars improved to 23-1 on the season behind consistent performances throughout the lineup. Nick Powell, Tristan Madison, Kylan Tolley and Carter Nicely each went 2-0 on the night for Alleghany. Nicely also broke the Alleghany High School single-season record for most pins.

Both duals came down to pivotal swings. Against Waynesboro, Caleb Fisher stepped into a critical bout and limited the damage with a decision loss, preserving valuable team points in a match decided by one. In the second dual, Dylan Osborne delivered the turning point, recording a key pin against Staunton that helped Alleghany secure another narrow victory.

The Cougars closed the night by holding off the host Storm, completing the sweep and maintaining their hold atop the Shenandoah standings.
