SALEM, Va. (VR) – Confidence is increasing that a major winter storm will affect the region this weekend, bringing significant travel impacts and dangerous conditions.

Key Details:

 Snowfall: There is an 80–100% chance of more than 5 inches of snow across the entire forecast area.

 Travel: Hazardous travel conditions are likely. (Stay off the roadways if possible).

 Extreme Cold: Temperatures will drop sharply following the storm.

 Mixed Precipitation: Southern areas may experience sleet and freezing rain, which could lead to ice accumulation. If the storm shifts farther
north, the risk of ice impacts will increase.

Residents are urged to prepare now for winter weather and monitor official updates for timing and details. Plan for possible power outages, dangerous
travel conditions, and extreme cold.

Stay informed:

 Follow local emergency management and weather service alerts.

 Avoid unnecessary travel during the storm.

 Check on vulnerable individuals and ensure adequate heating supplies.

Prepare your vehicle before you travel.

Dial 911 or #77 if your vehicle becomes disabled or involved in a crash.

Be prepared for extended response times from emergency services.
