COVINGTON, Va. (VR) – Salem used a strong first half and balanced scoring to pull out a 66-59 non-district boys’ basketball win over Alleghany on Monday night.
The Spartans led 31-22 at the half and stretched the advantage to 44-36 after three quarters. Oliver Gilliam paced four Salem players in double figures with 13 points, while Braylon Smith scored 11 and Elijah Paddyfote and Tanner Overstreet finished with 10 each.
Alleghany closed the gap in the second half behind Bubby Entsminger, who poured in 16 of his game-high 21 points after halftime. Jalen Raether and Des Jordan added 13 points apiece for the Cougars, and Talyn Elliott chipped in 10, but Salem maintained control down the stretch.
Salem also claimed a 51-44 win in the junior varsity game. Grayson MacBrien led the Spartans with 16 points, while Buddy Leisure-White scored 13 for Alleghany. Jackson Rickett had eight points and Gabe Salamanca added seven.
