Dear Editor,

Ask any American

Do you want law and order on your streets? Yes; absolutely.

Do you want immigrants here who were criminals in their home country or who came here and then committed serious crimes? No! They should be deported.

Do you want your county sheriff, your town police, your state troopers, members of your National Guard, Army, Navy, Air Force, and Marines, to do their jobs and respect the constitution? Absolutely.

Do you want the rule of law to prevail? What a question. Of course.

But do you support ICE sending groups of masked men with little training, some of who were castoffs from other jobs or fired from police departments for bad behavior, to cruise neighborhoods and selected cities, to be armed and encouraged to intimidate, rough up, handcuff, and detain pretty much anybody who isn’t white? And anybody else, including American citizens, who gets in their way? No, I don’t approve of gangs of masked goons, but some Americans do.

Do you support a president who habitually lies, breaks the law, and turns allies into enemies? No, I don’t. But lots of Americans do, because propaganda really does work. Especially when people want to believe it.
