BUENA VISTA, Va. (VR) – Bath County rolled to a 53-6 victory over Parry McCluer in a Pioneer District dual, securing the program’s first-ever dual win over the Blues and, by result, its first Pioneer District championship. The win marked Bath County’s fourth dual victory of the season.
The Chargers set the tone early and never let up, winning 10 of 11 bouts, with six victories coming by pin and four by forfeit.
Easton Roberts picked up a forfeit at 120 to open the match. Emily Robertson suffered the lone setback of the night at 126, getting pinned by a state-placing opponent. From there, Bath County controlled the dual. Harris Ellis and Jeremy Burns both recorded second-period pins, while Jesse Perry delivered a first-period technical fall at 144.
Gage Bryant, AJ Woodson, Ethan Bryant, and Azi Tyson all collected forfeit wins as the Chargers continued to build separation. Tyler Shaver closed the varsity action with a second-period pin at heavyweight to cap the decisive win.
Bath County’s youth wrestlers also saw action on the trip. Malachi Essex went 2-0, Hunter Shaver and Ryder Shaver each finished 1-0, and Emmanuel Essex and Colton Kershner both posted 1-1 records. Nathiah, Eva, Easton, Kingston, Luca, Caleb, Conner, Parker, Isaiah, Annabelle, and Ella all competed, gaining valuable mat time despite not recording wins.
The victory adds another milestone to a growing season for Bath County, as the Chargers continue to establish themselves atop the Pioneer District.
