ORANGE, Va. (VR) –  Bath County’s Emily Robertson put together a strong showing at the state’s largest girls wrestling tournament, finishing the day 5-1 against one of the toughest fields of the season.

After dropping her second-round match to a Roanoke Catholic wrestler, Robertson responded with four straight wins before reaching the VHSL six-match daily limit, which forced her to forfeit her final bout. She was in position to wrestle for fifth place, but VHSL rules prohibit a wrestler from competing in more than six matches in one day.

Robertson opened the consolation rounds with a 21-second pin of a Chancellor opponent, then followed with another pin against Culpeper in just over a minute. She edged Wilson Memorial in a hard-fought 5-4 decision before closing her day with a second-round pin over Turner Ashby.

Another athlete to mention at the meet is Tasha Shorter, Shorter placed fourth in her class out of 32 competitors.
