HOT SPRINGS — In a two match in two night stretch, the Bath County girls pitched a pair of shutouts.
It resulted in one tie and one convincing win.
After a 0-0 draw Thursday against Miller School, the Chargers got five goals and an assist from Stephanie Gardener in a big 7-0 win over Roanoke Catholic Friday on Carl F. Williams Field.
Jenifer Ford had two assists for Bath with the final score being an own goal that came after a Skovira kick.
“My midfield was just dominant tonight,” said BCHS coach Adam Frye, who saw his team improve to 2-1-1 with the win over Catholic. “Jenifer Ford,
Alicia Schwallenberg and Camden Smith along with Natalia Matos — they were fantastic.”
Senior keeper Kassedi Estes stopped five shots to go with her 13 saves in Thursday’s tie.
“The fact that we were exhausted tonight after playing a hard game last night — the fact that we turned it on tonight, I couldn’t be more pleased.”
Gardener’s five goals (3rd minute, 18th, 25th, 29th and 69th) ran her season total to nine through four matches, while Ford now has a team-high four assists.
“Nine goals in four games, that matches Stephanie’s season total from last year,” said Frye. “Really happy with the way we executed tonight, all three phases — defense, midfield and attack.”
Thursday, Estes stopped a penalty kick to preserve the draw with Miller School.
“That was the play of the game for us,” Frye said. “I’m extremely proud of her work in goal.”
The Chargers now break until Monday, April 8, when they host Stuart Hall.
