Boys Home of Virginia has announced the hiring of staff members Lisa Phetteplace, Donna Mitchell and Kenny Bess.
Phetteplace has joined the administrative staff. She moved to the area several months ago with her husband and heard about Boys Home through a neighbor.
Prior to joining the Boys Home staff, she worked seven years in a public school district as the administrator to the superintendent and spent ten years at Lawrence University in Appleton, Wis., as the administrator to dean of student academic services.
Phetteplace’s favorite thing about Boys Home is how she has been received by the staff and students. She likes how everyone is so friendly and how she has been made to feel like family. Lisa states that she is looking forward to getting to know the students more as she settles into her new position in the Program Department.
Mitchell was previously employed by Boys Home for two years as a houseparent. She left due to personal matters, but could not wait to return. She said she missed the students and staff tremendously.
Mitchell’s grandmother, great aunts, and father’s cousin have all been employees of Boys Home. She says she can remember her grandmother talking about Boys Home when Mitchell was a child.
Now that Mitchell is back, she cites that her favorite thing about Boys Home would have to be the relationships that develop with the students. She is also delighted to renew friendships with current staff members.
Bess graduated from Radford University with a bachelor’s degree in social science and history. He earned his master’s degree from Old Dominion University in early childhood education with a special education endorsement.
Bess spent many years in public school systems, but most recently worked at HopeTree Family Services. He is excited to work at Boys Home because he enjoys working with youth. His favorite thing about Boys Home so far is the knowledgeable, friendly, and cooperative staff. He looks forward to working with the students and seeing them come back to Boys Home in the future as successful men.
