BLACKSBURG — Alleghany’s Dominic Trice went 1-1 at Friday’s Class 3, Region D boys tennis singles tournament held at Virginia Tech.
Trice defeated Pablo Cruz of Northside, 6-0, 6-2, before falling in the semifinals to Hidden Valley’s Ravi Jayaraman, 6-3, 6-0.
The Mountaineer senior finished the season with a 16-3 singles record.
“Dominic had a real good career in singles and he really stepped it up a notch this season,” said AHS coach Seth Davis. “He was the Three Rivers District Player of the Year. The score of the last set against the Hidden Valley player was deceiving with many close games.
“It’s the first time in many years where Alleghany had a player win a region tennis match in singles,” he added. “I’m very proud of him and the work he’s put in.”
Trice will join teammate Chris Tingler in the Class 3, Region D doubles tournament Tuesday morning at Virginia Tech.
