Information on where all of the smoke is coming from:

DOF and the U.S Forest Service are in unified command on wildfires in Craig and Botetourt counties. The Lignite Fire is fully contained at approximately 130 acres. Personnel remain in the area to monitor.

The Bald Mountain Fire has now burned approximately 2,400 acres within the U.S. Forest Service – George Washington and Jefferson National Forest. More than 80 wildland firefighters, supported by multiple aircraft and two DOF dozers, are working to contain the fire. DOF has also completed measures to protect adjacent private property and structures.

Road Closures
To provide for firefighter and public safety, the following roads are temporarily closed:
* Forest Service Road 180
* Lignite Mine Road from Route 615 to Route 617 in Botetourt County
* Forest Service Road 179
* Bald Mountain Road, and;
* Forest Service Road 181 in Craig County

Please avoid the area to allow responders room to work.

Do not fly drones anywhere near the area. Updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
