FLOYD — Emma Nicely won the 400 meter dash title, highlighting Alleghany’s performance Thursday at the Three Rivers District track championships at Floyd County High School.
Nicely ran a winning time of 1:03.89 and scored 18 points for the Mountaineer girls.
“Emma Nicely ran a really strong 400 meters and won the district,” said AHS coach Jeremy Bartley.
Maggie Thompson led Alleghany with 20 points, Aimee Krabbe had 13 and Cassy Evans scored one.
The Mountaineer girls finished fifth.
Randall Deschler scored the only Alleghany points in the boys competition with a third place run in the 3,200 meters.
“It was unfortunate that much of the team was ill,” said Bartley. “The athletes that competed performed very well.
“Aimee Krabbe long jumped for a personal best and placed,” he added. “Randall Deschler had a strong day with a PR and placed in the 3,200.”
Alleghany will compete in the Class 3, Region D championship on Thursday at Christiansburg High School.
