LEWISBURG, W.Va. — WV Fine Artisans is featuring the artwork of Pamela Gatens during the month of May.
Gatens was born in Dallas, Texas, to an artistic family and started working in graphic arts in high school. Later she began her career in graphic design and typography.
Gatens moved to West Virginia in 2002, joined a local art guild and in 2004 she began exploring acrylics and watercolor. Gatens is best known for her floral and cat paintings.
Gatens says she paints nearly every day and when she is not painting she is gazing, studying and dreaming about painting.
She feels that painting on canvas is all about color, freedom and problem solving.
Gatens focuses on brushwork and layering in order to express her love of color. She finds inspiration in everything from beautiful flowers to a smiling cat. She says her passion for art is so great that she feels nothing makes her happier than painting.
“My colorful paintings come from the true happiness I feel in front of the easel,” she said.
Gatens work will be on display throughout the month of May at WV Fine Artisans, located at 1042 Washington Street, East in Lewisburg.
