Mr. Burton Lanier Dameron, 81, of Covington, died Friday, April 26, 2019 at Roanoke Memorial Hospital. He was the loving husband of 54 years to the love of his life and soul mate, Wanda Via Dameron.
Mr. Dameron was born December 13, 1937 in Alleghany County, the son of the late John McDonald Dameron and Mary Rosser Dameron.
A lifelong resident of the community, Mr. Dameron was a retired member of the Boiling Springs Fire and Rescue Department.
He was a member of Faith Baptist Church and a wonderful Christian man who loved the Lord. Burton was a mail carrier with the U.S. Postal Service and knew everyone in town. When it came to small repairs or vehicle repairs, he was everyone’s “go to” person. Mr. Dameron loved spending time with his children and grandchildren as well as his church family.
Mr. Dameron is survived by his wife, Wanda Via Dameron; one son, Joseph “Joey” Burton (Kim) of Goodview, Va; two daughters, Patricia “Patty” Unroe (Mike) of Troutville and Terry Lynn Dameron of Covington; seven grandchildren, Phillip Unroe, Morgan Unroe, Alexis Dameron, Joshua Dameron, Julia Dameron, Burton Allen Markham and Abby Markham; three brothers, Stuart Dameron (Sue) of WVa, John A. Dameron (Linda) of Covington and Lewis Dameron ( Bonnie) of WVa; one sister, Sarah Glover (Bill) of Covington; a number of nieces and nephews; a sister-in-law Margaret Dressler and husband, Ernest; and his Fur-Friend “Jack”.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother Oscar Dameron; and three sisters, Clara Dameron, Nora Lee Dameron and Anna Dameron.
A funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 P.M., Tuesday, April 30, 2019, from the chapel of Loving Funeral Home with Rev. Billy Price and Rev. Virgil Woody officiating. Interment will follow in Alleghany Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be Tom McRoberts, Mark Dameron, Larry Anglin, Larry Mann, Mike Wade and David Pack.
The family will receive friends Tuesday morning from 11:30 A.M. until time of service.
The family suggests that memorial tributes take the form of contributions to Boys Home of Virginia, 414 Boys Home Rd. Covington and Faith Baptist Church Food Pantry, 311 Jackson Dr, Covington.
Arrangements are being handled by Loving Funeral Home; www.lovingfuneralhome1913.com.
