WARM SPRINGS, Va. — The Bath County Chargers delivered a commanding performance against the Hancock Panthers on Friday night, securing a decisive 42-0 shutout win before a home crowd at Carl F. Williams Field.

From the opening whistle to the final buzzer, the Chargers asserted control on both sides of the ball, setting the tone for a triumphant night of football.

Bath County wasted no time establishing momentum during the first quarter, with the defense leading the way. Early on, Chargers’ standout AJ Woodson made a crucial interception, setting up Bath County in strong field position for their first offensive drive. Running back Ethan Bryant took advantage, breaking through the middle to score the first touchdown for the Chargers. Kicker Walker Randozzo added the extra point, giving the Chargers an early 7-0 lead.

The Hancock Panthers, on their next possession, faced immediate adversity, starting from their own 40-yard line after a short kickoff and a false start penalty. The Chargers’ defense stifled the Panthers’ run game, with consecutive stops and little gain for Hancock’s offensive attack. An attempted pass by Hancock was intercepted by Ethan Bryant, who ran it back all the way to the house adding another touchdown to Bath County’s tally, and a pick six to Bryant’s resume. The Chargers continued to execute on special teams, expanding their lead and putting the Panthers on their heels.

Throughout the first half, Bath County’s offensive and defensive lines controlled the tempo of play. Big plays by Kirby and Bryant and fierce, dominating blocking by the offensive line kept the Chargers moving down the field on offense, while Hancock struggled to find any rhythm against the relentless surge of the Bath County defense. Holding and face mask penalties against the panthers gave the Chargers valuable yardage, leading to first downs and continuous scoring opportunities.

As the half progressed, Bath County built on their early advantage, with the poised precision of Hunter Kirby’s passing ability and the sheer dominance of the Chargers line making key tackles on defense. By halftime, the Chargers held a comfortable 35-0 lead, and their confidence only grew as the second half got under way.

The third and fourth quarters brought more of the same, with Bath County’s depth on display. Even as the game’s outcome became clear, the Chargers maintained their intensity, determined to keep a clean sheet and maintain the shutout. The suspense did little to shake the Chargers’ focus, even as the stands began to empty out early, fans confident in their Chargers victory as Bath County earned the “W” 42-0. Bath County’s coaching staff praised the team’s discipline and execution after the game. The Chargers’ ability to capitalize on turnovers, avoid costly mistakes, and maintain pressure was a testament to their preparation.

Hancock, meanwhile, faced the disappointment of a long road trip back to Maryland after a tough loss. “Well, we knew they were some mountain boys” Hancock’s coach told his team “But those are Mountain Boys!”

The Panthers’ players and coaches left optimistic for their next chance, especially with the prospect of home-field advantage in next year’s rematch.

The final whistle confirmed Bath County’s total dominance, their teamwork reflected in every facet of the game. With this victory, the Bath County Chargers continue their strong run in the season and look forward to building on the momentum in coming weeks, as the Hancock Panthers regroup and prepare for the remainder of their season.
