CHS Students Receive Academic Awards

Covington High School recognized 35 of its students as Covington?Scholars and Distinguished Covington Scholars during its 34th annual Academic Awards ceremony held Tuesday, May 14, at Granbery Memorial United Methodist Church in?Covington.
Students who made the A or B Honor Roll during the first five six-weeks grading periods are recognized as scholars, while students who make the A Honor Roll during the first five six-weeks periods are recognized as distinguished scholars.
“We’re really proud of everyone that’s here this evening and all you outstanding achievements,” said CHS Principal Derek Cantrell. “It takes a lot of work day in and day out to be successful in the classroom. We really appreciate all the hard work you put in.”
Students designated as Covington Scholars include:
•Eighth grade: Lauren Bragg, Aubrey Brown, Connor Lattie, Amara Shelton and Kinley Willis, all receiving lamps.
•Ninth grade: Nadia Bergholz, Jaymi Davis, Justin Maloney and Joseph Whitt, each receiving a lamp; Unique Jordan, Hailey Hall-Kincaid, Amberosia Persinger and Samuel Poague, each receiving a letter.
•Tenth grade: Samuel Akers, Madison?Bennett, Wesley?Caldwell, Savanna Craft, Allison?Douglas, Margaret Earwood, Luke Fisher, Ty Rose and Zoe Spangler, all receiving lamps.
•Eleventh grade: Sarah Donovan and Shawn Shiflett, both receiving lamps.
•Twelfth grade: Nicolas McCallister, receiving a letter; Brianna Humphries, Garrett Morgan and Brandon Seay, all receiving a lamp.

Students designated as Distinguished Covington Scholars included:
•Eighth grade: Erica Spinks, first year pin and letter.
•Ninth grade: Megan Rickett and Alexia Shanklin, both receiving a first year pin and a lamp; Conlan Staunton, receiving a second year pin and a lamp.
•Eleventh grade: Cailin Johnson, receiving a first year pin and a lamp;
•Twelfth grade: Hailey Gibson, receiving a first year pin and a lamp; Evan Rose, receiving a fourth year pin and a lamp.
Evan Rose was also recognized as valedictorian for the Class of 2019, while Garrett Morgan was recognized as salutatorian.
Members of the CHS Academic Recognition Committee include Lisa Richards, Linda Lewis, Derek Cantrell, Robbie Thomas, Vicki Dooley, Chris Jones, Leigh Ann Woodward and Kevin Hanna, who serves as chairperson.
Graduation ceremonies were held Friday, May 24.
