CLIFTON FORGE — The Friends of the Clifton Forge Public Library are sponsoring a raffle for a Star Snowman from The Polonaise Collection.
Hand-crafted in Poland by Komozja exclusively for Kurt S. Adler, Inc., the vintage ornament was donated by Gayle Hillert and includes the original box, plus a stand donated by Nancy Kilian.
Komozja’s Polonaise Collection is known for its  array of glass ornaments made in the tradition of the age-old European craft of hand-blown glass.
Reminiscent of glass ornaments of yesteryear, each piece has finely sculpted detail, is silvered, lacquered, then hand-painted in exquisite colors.
The online Polish American Journal writes that Komozja, a family-owned and operated business, began in 1945 and twice closed due to Poland’s nationalization. The company was reopened in 1981 after the second generation of the family began lobbying the government for permission to regain ownership of their business.
With the emergence of democracy in 1989 and Poland’s transformation to a new market economy, Komozja, which now included the third generation, became a privately-owned business.
In 1993, a long-time family acquaintance who resided in New York City, contacted Kurt S. Adler, Inc., on behalf of the family.
A leading and well-established importer of holiday decorations, the company launched The Polonaise Collection by Komozja in 1994.  It has since become one of the “most renowned names in glass Christmas tree ornaments.”
Raffle tickets are $1 each   or six for $5. Tickets may be purchased at the Clifton Forge Public Library.
The drawing will be held on the afternoon of December 19.
The Friends of the Library organization uses all funds received to support the library’s book and media collections, and to assist with library services and programs.
The Clifton Forge Public Library is located at 535 Church Street.
For information on any library program, call 863-2519.
