Covington, Va. (VR) – Olde Town Covington, Inc., in partnership with Virginia Main Street and Friends of Southwest Virginia, would like to invite residents, business owners, and stakeholders to lace up their walking shoes and take part in a Community Walking Visioning Tour, July 28, 2025, from 6:00-7:30 pm, beginning at City Hall.
The tour will allow participants to share their ideas for vacant and underutilized properties and envision a future for Covington that reflects the community’s values, needs, and aspirations.
“We’re inviting the people who live, work, and spend time in downtown to share their voices,” said Terri McClung, Board Member of Olde Town Covington. “This walk isn’t just about seeing downtown — it’s about envisioning its future together. It’s a meaningful dialogue where every perspective
matters as we explore what kinds of businesses and opportunities could thrive here.”
This event is a key component of the Downtown Inventory + Real Estate Redevelopment Strategy project with nationally recognized consultant, Place + Main Advisors. This project is a comprehensive effort to revitalize downtown areas across ten Virginia Main Street communities, including Covington, aiming to identify development opportunities, analyze market conditions, and attract investment by creating a data-driven redevelopment strategy. The project was made possible through the support of the Appalachian Regional Commission in partnership with Friends of Southwest Virginia, Virginia Main Street, and the Virginia Department of Housing and Community Development.
Olde Town Covington is proud to acknowledge Smurfit WestRock as a 2025 Silver Sponsor. Their support demonstrates a continued investment in community development and the shared belief in the importance of a strong, connected downtown district.
