SPRINGWOOD — Alleghany overcame a slow start here Wednesday night, picking up a 54-28 Three Rivers District girls basketball decision over James River.
The Mountaineers led just 19-14 at the half, but outscored the Knights 35-14 over the final 16 minutes.
Maggie Rooklin and Gracie Conner both scored 14 for the winners, while Kerry Ann Byer added seven.
Madison Brogan led the Knights (0-7 TRD, 4-13 overall) with 12.
Alleghany improved to 3-4 in the Three Rivers win the win, 11-5 overall.
The Mountaineers play at Floyd County on Friday.
Alleghany was a 47-15 JV winner Wednesday.
Macyn Cash led the Mounties with 16 points. Maddi Brown and Abbie Fridley both added nine, Kalin Rice scored seven, and Ashtyn Bishop, Zamera Hayslett and Emily Lanahan all had two.
