CLIFTON FORGE — A point guard from Greenbrier County, W.Va., has signed a letter of intent to play basketball for the newly formed women’s basketball team at Dabney S. Lancaster Community College for the 2020-21 season.
Julie Agee, a 17-year-old senior at Greenbrier West High School from Hines, W.Va., is believed to be the first-ever female player to be recruited for the DSLCC Roadrunners. Carl “Shorty” Wolfe III of Covington is the women’s coach.
“I feel like this is where God wants me to go,” says Agee, who was looking at DSLCC mainly because of its outstanding nursing program. “I talked to several other schools, but everything seemed to work out better at Dabney.”
The Cavalier standout says she averages five to six assists and 10 points per game. At only 5-foot-2, Agee says she tries to be fast as well as aggressive. She also participates in track and volleyball, but she enjoys basketball the most.
“Julie is an extremely hard working and dedicated individual,” says Wolfe, who recruited her. “She impressed me with her defensive effort and her knowledge of the game.  Julie is faith driven and focused on achieving every goal she or her coaches have put in front of her. She is the type of player you want around when building a program.”
Agee credits her family, including her parents, Davina and Mark Agee (Julie’s dad is the girls’ basketball coach at Greenbrier West), and her younger siblings, Natalie and Isaac, with being among her biggest fans, and encouraging her to continue her basketball career in college. One of her team members, Kenley Posten, accompanied Agee to the signing ceremony. “She’s pushed me to be the best player I can be,” says Agee.
Agee will be graduating from Greenbrier West in May, and will enroll at DSLCC for the fall 2020 semester.
“I am excited to get this women’s program up and running,” adds Wolfe. “It’s going to be something special for our surrounding area. I’ve already received calls from NCAA Division I programs looking to create a connection for future Roadrunner graduates to continue playing at the next level. That’s exciting for players who may have been overlooked in high school or players who need that extra time to develop their skills.”
Coach Wolfe may be reached at (540) 620-6825 or by email at Cwolfe@dslcc.edu.
