Kathleen Joyce “Kathy” Duty Nicely, age 79, of 200 Meadowdale Road, Clifton Forge, Virginia died Sunday, January 19, 2020 at her residence surrounded by her loving husband, sons, and grandsons.
She was born May 21, 1940 in Logan County, West Virginia to the late Basil and Myrtle Baisden Duty.
She worked for Kroger Grocery in the deli department and at Sharon Elementary School in the cafeteria. She was a member of Lone Star Advent Christian Church where she sang in the choir, taught Sunday School, was a youth leader, and in the Mission Circle. She was a Den Mother for BSA Cub Scout Den # 139. She loved cooking, gardening, decorating her home, and hosting her family and friends for Christmas Eve.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Imogene Stamper and three brothers, Jimmy Duty, Jerry Duty, and Larry Duty.
She is survived by her husband of sixty years, Burton Eddy Nicely of Clifton Forge; four sons, Bruce Nicely and partner David Gregory of Detroit, MI, Burton A. “Bert” Nicely of Clifton Forge, Rodney B. Nicely of Clifton Forge, and Benjamin “Benny” Todd Nicely and wife Julie of Roanoke; three sisters-in-law, Dreama Simpson and husband Ronnie of Clifton Forge, Linda Duty of Valley City, OH, and Peggy Duty of Afton; three brothers-in-law, Cletus Nicely and wife Jenny, Randy Nicely and wife Joy, and Michael Nicely and wife Sherry, all of Clifton Forge; five grandchildren, Haley Kathleen Nicely, Rachel Leigh Nicely, Autumn Hope Ingram and husband Joey, Trenton-Eddy Dylan Nicely, and Coree Burton Nicely; a great granddaughter, Sonnie Kathleen Holcomb; a step great grandson, Brayden Ingram; a number of loving nieces and nephews; and her church family and many wonderful friends, including a special friend, Celia Reynolds.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, January 23, 2020 at 11:30 AM in the chapel of Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge with Reverend Doug Moore officiating.
Interment will follow in Sharon Baptist Cemetery, Clifton Forge.
Kathy’s nephews will serve as pallbearers.
Honorary pallbearers will be Terry Loving, Wayne Nicely, and C. J. Nicely.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday evening from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Nicely Funeral Home.
The family suggests memorial tributes take the form of contributions to Lone Star Advent Christian Church, 4704 Nicelytown Rd, Clifton Forge, VA 24422, or to St. Jude Childrens Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
