A general meeting of the Covington Woman’s Club  was held Wednesday, Feb. 20, in the Alleghany Highlands Regional Library’s W.N. “John” Rice Community Room.
President Cynthia Baroody called the meeting to order at 5:30 p.m., following a reception for students in honor of their participation in the annual Student/ Member Art Show and Writing Contest. About 50 people signed the guest book. The exhibit will close on Wednesday, March 4.
The minutes of the December meeting will be approved at a later date.
Treasurer Gayle Kitchen gave a detailed 2019-2020 club year report. 

Business
“Soles4Souls” is accepting new and gently used shoes at the Alleghany Highlands YMCA through the month of March. Shoes should be tied together or held together with rubber bands.
“Read Across America Day” is Monday, March 2, at Callaghan Elementary School. Club members interested in participating in the show should meet at the library at 10 a.m. to drive to the school.
The Garden Tour fundraiser will be held on June 13. An ornament sale  is being explored by Christine Hodges and her committee.
The GFWC (General Federation of Women’s Clubs) Virginia 2020 convention is scheduled for April 24-26, at the Hyatt Regency in Fairfax.
The Shenandoah District Spring Meeting will be held Saturday, April 4, at Massanutten Presbyterian Church, hosted by Wayland Woman’s Club, GFWC and Weyers Cave Woman’s Club of GFWC. Cost is $20 which includes registration and lunch. The deadline is Monday, March 23.
The Eastern Children’s Forest visit by Callaghan and Sharon Elementary School third graders will take place on Friday, April 24. Christine Hodges is coordinating the visit.
At the March 4 Board of Directors meeting, scheduled for 1:30 p.m. at the library, the art and writing exhibits will be taken down.  Teachers will come pick up the art that afternoon.
The meeting adjourned with the Club Collect.
