LOW MOOR — Plans to upgrade and modernize the athletic training room and weight room at Alleghany High School are moving forward.
The estimated cost of the project is $140,000 and school officials hope to have it completed by fall.
Plans call for the athletic field house to be remodeled to allow for the relocation of the varsity locker room.
The project includes the creation of a new training room and a more modern weight room that will be appropriate for use by males and females.
School officials say the project is being modeled after fitness facilities at the University of Virginia and Virginia Tech.
“It’s progressing nicely and it’s going to include everything on the wish list, we hope,” said Ben Truett, supervisors of  maintenance and transportation for Alleghany County Public Schools.
Truett gave the school board an update on the project Tuesday night during a meeting at the Central Office Complex in Low Moor.
Truett said an architectural review of the project has been completed and he hopes to have bids for the school board to approve within 60 days.
The school board decided to move ahead with the project after holding lengthy discussions last fall.
