LEXINGTON, Va. (VR) – The Covington Middle School boys soccer team showed heart and hustle on the field Tuesday evening but came up short in a 5-1 loss to Lylburn Downing Middle School.
Despite the final score, the game was a test of resilience for Covington, who battled throughout the match against a well-organized and aggressive opponent. Dalton Vance provided the lone goal for Covington, finding the back of the net in the second half to break through Lylburn Downing’s defense.
In goal, Covington was anchored by a strong performance from its two keepers. Lucas Tidd-Whiting made six saves in the first half, keeping the Cougars in striking distance. Sam Nickell took over in the second half and recorded an impressive 11 saves under constant pressure.
