The Shadow
The Alleghany Highlands Chorale will present a program of Christmas music tomorrow at 4 p.m. in the sanctuary of McAllister Memorial Presbyterian Church in Covington.
Included in the selections are Coventry Carol,” “Away in a Manger,” “Once in Royal David’s City,” “Carol of the Bells,” and “Good Christian Men?Rejoice.”
Lesser known pieces include an early American tune set to the text “Brightest and Best” and an arrangement of the Leslie Bricusse/John Williams song “Star of Bethlehem” from “Home Alone.”
Tom McHenry will be the featured soloist on “Past Three O’Clock” and Cathy Rowan will solo on “Away in a Manger.”
This year the audience will be asked to join with the Chorale in singing of several carols, including “Joy to the World,” “I Heard the Bells on Christmas Day,” “What Child Is This,” “Hark the Herald Angels Sing,” “O Come All Ye Faithful,” Silent Night,” and O Little Town of Bethlehem.”
Chorale members include:
•Sopranos: Betty Bunch, Pearl Miller, Sandra Minter, Cathy Rowan, Anne Scruggs;
•Altos: Debby Amick, Anne Donovan, Meg Jack-son, Gail McHenry, Frankie Marshall, Susan Rollinson’
•Tenors: Josh Craft, Mike Matlack, Jim Moss, Lon Rollinson, Wayne Winebriner, John Young;
•Basses: Howard Liptrap, Tom McHenry, Wayne Ogden, B.R. Rupert, David Wheeler.
Kathryn Crutchfield is the director, while Cathy Drummer serves as accompanist.
The Chorale is sponsored by the Alleghany Highlands Arts Council with Arritt Funeral Home as corporate co-sponsor.
Admission is by donation that will be accepted at the door. All are welcome to attend.

The Alleghany Highlands Chorale will present their winter concert tomorrow at 4 p.m. at McAllister Memorial Presbyterian Church in Covington. A program of holiday music has been planned by director Kathy Crutchfield. Cathy Lowry is accompanist for the group. The chorale is sponsored by the Alleghany Highlands Arts Council with Arritt Funeral Home as its corporate co-sponsor. Admission to the event is by donation at the door on Sunday afternoon.
