COVINGTON, Va. (VR) — Alleghany High School will be staggering its dismissal times later this month to improve safety and traffic flow in the parking lot.

Beginning Monday, March 31, student drivers, students who will be picked up by parents, and student-athletes who will be attending practices on-site will be dismissed from school at 3:35 p.m. At 3:40 p.m., students who ride buses will be dismissed in two waves. The first wave of bus riders will go directly to the buses. The second wave will report to the cafeteria, as usual.

To support the new dismissal process, AHS will adjust its bell schedule. In the morning, the bell that directs students to go to class will ring at 8:17 a.m., and the first block will begin at 8:23 a.m. Minor adjustments will also be made throughout the day to help make the new dismissal
process go smoothly. No major changes to bus routes are necessary.

“These changes are aimed at easing parking lot congestion and improving the traffic flow during dismissal,” Cantrell said. “We appreciate the understanding and support of parents and students as we implement these improvements.”
