ALLEGHANY COUNTY, Va. (VR) – The Alleghany Cruisers are getting ready for what promises to be one of the best years for car enthusiasts in the Alleghany Highlands ever.

The Alleghany Cruisers are an area car club with around 50 members that are committed to promoting the automotive hobby in a family friendly manner while being stewards to the community.

“Our club is made up of a very diverse group of great people from all walks of life with all kinds of automotive interests.” : said Alleghany Cruisers President Robert Floyd. “We love cars of all kinds and we love our community.”

The highlight of the Alleghany Cruisers upcoming car event season are the three large car shows hosted by the club. The Back the Blue Scholarship Car Show, the Chessie Car Show, and the Holiday Hot Rod Round Up.

The 6th Annual Back the Blue Scholarship Car Show will be held in Covington on June 21, 2025. This event is both a fund raiser for the Back the Blue Scholarship, which is awarded to area high school students furthering their education in criminal justice, and is a tribute to law enforcement officers throughout the region. In 2024 the Alleghany Cruisers awarded three Back the Blue Scholarships.

The 2nd Annual Chessie Car Show is a joint venture between the Alleghany Cruisers and the C&O Historical Society. This event will be held on July 12, 2025 at the C&O Railway Heritage Center in Clifton Forge VA. This event is a fund raiser for the C&OHS and offers a unique atmosphere, combining the car hobby with railroad history.

The 4th Annual Holiday Hot Rod Round Up will be held in Covington on November 1, 2025. This event is a Christmas themed car show that serves as a fund raiser for the Salvation Army’s Angel Tree Program. In 2024 significant funds were raised for this great organization.

“We kind of like to think of these events as our Triple Crown.”: said Floyd. “These are all great events that are becoming some of the most anticipated car shows in the region.

Each one has a unique atmosphere and offers a lot both the entrants and the public alike.”

In addition to the three car shows the Alleghany Cruisers will be holding Cruise In’s throughout the year. These events are currently scheduled for Rivermont School, King’s Tire Service, Magic City Chevrolet, Twink’s 220 Diner, and Cucci’s Pizzeria. Additional events are in the works for the fall.

Of course, one of the signature activities of the Alleghany Cruisers is Cruisin’ Covington which is held on Friday evenings from mid-April to Late August and then on Saturday evenings from late August to late October. Cruisin’ Covington is all about getting out on the town, cruising, gathering with friends, and supporting local restaurants.

“Cruisin’ Covington is as old school as it gets.” : said Floyd. “It is a throw back to days gone by when folks would get out and cruise the town and hang out with their friends. It is good clean, simple fun.”

The Alleghany Cruisers will kick off the 2025 Car Event season with Covington Cars & Coffee at Cucci’s on Saturday April 5.
