From the Alleghany County Schools Facebook page;NOTICE: At the end of the school day, Covington High School administration received notice from one of their students of a possible threat from a student in Greenbrier County, West Virginia. Upon receiving this information, local law enforcement and school officials began an immediate investigation into the matter and continued the investigation throughout the evening. The threat was not school specific. At this time the issue has not been resolved; therefore, all Covington City Schools, Alleghany County Public Schools, and offices will be closed Friday, February 7, 2020. Both school divisions and local law enforcement will continue to work together to resolve the matter; however, the outcome of this investigation will determine if schools will be in operation on Monday, February 10. Again, we take any and all threats seriously and will work diligently to ensure the safety of our students and staff. A statement or announcement in regards to this situation will be made as soon as possible, but not later than Sunday evening. Please contact the Covington Police Department or Alleghany County Sheriff’s Office if you have any information.——————Stay tuned with us as we’ll have more information as it comes out.
