The Alleghany Highlands Regional Library staff has added two new programs for teens. AHRL staff member Rebekah Engler will direct the new programs.
Teen S.T.E.A.M. will focus on Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math experiences for students ages 12-18. After teaching a short lesson, participants will take part in a hands-on activity or experiment.
The first meeting will take place on Tuesday, Jan. 21, at 6:30 p.m. in the John Rice Community Room and focus on the intricacies of homopolar (simple electric) motors.
Rebekah will also lead the Teen Book Club, which will meet the first Tuesday night of each month at 6:30 p.m. in the Board Room. The club is for teens (ages 13-18) and will feature lively discussions of selected books. Snacks will be provided. The first session will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 4, and will focus on Heartmender by V. Romas Burton.
“I am very excited to introduce these programs for teens,” Engler stated. “I hope these opportunities will ignite a passion within teens to make the library a more focused part of their lives. Both programs will be enjoyable experiences for people with varied interests such as math lovers, science geeks, book nerds, artists, engineering enthusiasts, and others.”
