WARM SPRINGS — During the period of mandatory school closure, March 16-27, Bath County Public Schools is providing packaged breakfast and lunch meals for all division students.
Division personnel have contacted families to determine participation and preferred method of delivery.
Distribution began Wednesday.
Meal preparations will be based on opt-in numbers. If your student’s needs change, contact the School Nutrition Program by e-mail or phone: bathcountyschoolmeals@bath.k12.va.us, or 540-839-2722, Option 4.
Meals will be distributed by school bus on Wednesday, March 18; Monday, March 23; and Wednesday, March 25.
Wednesday meals will include two breakfasts and two lunches. Monday meals will include three breakfasts and three lunches. Established afternoon bus routes will be used for delivery.
“The estimated time of delivery will be your child(ren) usual home arrival,” Superintendent Sue Hirsh said. “Be prepared for a slightly earlier or later arrival.”
Meal pick-up will occur at Millboro Elementary School and Valley Elementary School on the above dates (March 18, 23, and 25) from 3:30-4:30 p.m.
Parents are asked to accompany students at school pick-up sites to accept the meals.
Elementary instructional packets and some high school assignments on flash drives were distributed with meals on Wednesday, March 18.
“If you opted out of meals, instructional packets/flash drives will also be delivered by afternoon bus routes,” Hirsh said. “Again, times may vary slightly, but be prepared to meet the bus.”
The school systems in the city of Covington and Alleghany County are also providing meals to students during the Coronavirus crisis.
Covington City Public Schools started a meal distribution program Wednesday. The distribution program will remain in effect through Friday, March 27.
A?similar policy was developed by Alleghany County Public Schools with distribution of meals beginning Wednesday.
Gov. Ralph Northam announced a two-week closure of all Virginia schools last week in response to the Coronavirus outbreak.
