ROANOKE — Alleghany’s Abby Martin won a pair of individual events at the Gator Center Monday night in the Mountaineers’ season-opening swim meet.
Martin was a winner in both the 50 yard (27.26) and 100 yard (1:02.72) freestyle races.
Alleghany girls defeated William Fleming, 77-5, and lost to William Byrd, 55-38.
The boys team also split results, beating Fleming, 34-10, and losing to Byrd, 56-22.
“We had some really strong swims,” said Lee Anne Bowling-Angle, who is starting her ninth season as the Mountaineer head coach. “It was a great start to the season.”
Alleghany will swim in the Christiansburg Invitational Saturday at the Christiansburg Aquatic Center.
