WIRTZ — Mason Neighbors scored eight of his game-high 21 points in overtime here Tuesday, leading Smith Mountain Lake Christian Academy to a 44-36 win over Boys Home.
The Hilltoppers outscored the Ospreys 12-4 in the fourth quarter to tie the game, but were outscored 8-1 in the overtime period.
Terrance Harmon led Boys Home with 11 points, Carlos Brown had nine and Philip Neville scored eight.
“We played our best game of the year against a very strong Smith Mountain team,” said BH coach Mike Nunnally. “We were outsized at all five positions.
“Down nine going into the last quarter, we showed a lot of heart and determination to take the game to overtime at 35-all. As is often the case when you make a huge effort to catch up, we ran out of gas in overtime. Inexperience in these types of games also hurt our chances. I feel this game, though a loss, was a big step forward for us.”
Boys Home (10-3) hosts New Life Christian Academy on Friday at 7 p.m.
