ALLEGHANY COUNTY, Va. (VR)– Virginia State Police is investigating a two-vehicle crash, which resulted in a fatality. The crash occurred Tuesday (Jan 21) at 12:53 a.m. on Interstate 64, two miles west of Dabney Drive in Alleghany County.
A 2025 Volkswagen Jetta was traveling east in the westbound travel lanes, (wrong way driver), when the vehicle struck a Kenworth tractor trailer traveling west; head-on.
The driver of the Volkswagen was identified as Edmond Thomas Floyd, 86, of Buena Vista, Va. Mr. Floyd was not wearing his seatbelt and died at the scene.
The driver of the tractor trailer was wearing his seatbelt and was injured. He was transported to a local hospital, where he was treated and released.
The crash remains under investigation.
