LEXINGTON – In Alleghany’s last swim meet before their winter break, they lost to Rockbridge County in both the boys and girls’ classes at the Rockbridge Aquatic Center on Friday, December 20th.

The Wildcats defeated the Cougars 119-18 as they won eight individual races as well as all three relay races.

Spencer Pfaff set a school record for Rockbridge County as he won the 200-yard individual medley following a time of 2:04.8. Pfaff also qualified for the Class 3 state meet after winning the 100-yard butterfly in 54.5 seconds.

Other winners from the Wildcats include Ru Bucky 500-yard freestyle, Jacob Barney 100 and 200-yard freestyle, Leif Guse 50-yard freestyle, Ben Gresham 100-yard backstroke, River Jenkins 100-yard breaststroke.

Cadence Bland (50-yard freestyle), Logan Walton (100-yard breaststroke), and James Conner (100-yard backstroke), each finished third individually in their races for Alleghany.

Rockbridge edged out a 68-58 victory over Alleghany in girls’ competition after a pair of individual wins and in the 200-yard freestyle relay.

Camille Fuentes (200-yard individual medley) and Lexi Walter’s (100-yard freestyle) were the Wildcats individual winners, while the duo was accompanied by Rio Bucy and Willow Moles to win the 200-yard freestyle.

The Alleghany girls team put together a strong effort by winning four individual events and the 200-yard medley relay.

Kara Nicely was a part of three first place finishes, including two individuals in the 50-yard freestyle and the 100-yard butterfly. Emily Peters (100-yard backstroke) and Katie Stull (100-yard breaststroke) were also individual winners for the Cougars.

Parry McCluer was the third school involved in this swim meet, however, the Fighting Blues had one lone swimmer compete on the girl’s side.

Despite being the lone swimmer for Parry McCluer, Olive King made quite the noise as she won a pair of individual races, including the 200-yard freestyle and in the 500-yard freestyle where she swam a state-qualifying time of 5:46.63.
