Barbara Baker Fitzgerald left her earthly home on January 13, 2020 to reside with her Heavenly Father.
Barbara was born September 15, 1947 in Waynesboro, Va to Audrey Graham who preceded her in death.
Barbara is survived by her husband of 54 years, Lemuel Fitzgerald Jr; her sons Timothy (Natalie), Jon (Laurie) and Dale (Michelle). Barbara was a loving grandmother to Whitney Helmintoller (Ross), Brieanna Coffey (Dustin), Kaylie Johnson(Noah), Cody Fitzgerald (Amanda), Ashlyn Fitzgerald (Michael Reaves). She loved and adored her 6 great-grandchildren: Graecyn, Autumn, Sadie, Walter, Finley, and Parker. Also, surviving Barbara is a sister, Betty Kanney of Winchester, sister-in-law Pat Lucas (Wendell), bother-in-law Steve Fitzgerald(Jane) along with several nieces and nephews. Barbara was cared for and loved by special friends Sharon Wright and Connie Holloway. She will also be missed by special friend Teresa Gleason.
Barbara spent 15 years working in the medical field where she greeted each patient with a smile. Barbara was family focused and loved being with each and every member of her family.  Barbara was an avid sports fans especially when her sons were growing up. Recently, she enjoyed quiet past times such as reading, crocheting and coloring.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to Sharon, Ms. Connie and Amedisys Hospice for the care and love extended to Barabara.
A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, January 15, 2020, at Covington Baptist Church with Rev. Richard Childress officiating.
 Interment will follow in Alleghany Memorial Park.
Following the interment, the family request friends and family to return to Covington Baptist Church for food and fellowship.
In lieu of flowers the family would like to request that donations be made in Barbara’s honor to: American Lung Association, 9702 Gayton Road #110, RIchmond, VA 23248 or Amedisys Hospice at 5221 Valley Park Drive, Roanoke Va 24019. Make checks payable to: The Amedisys Foundation.
