Several local students and teachers were honored by the Curtis A. Smith Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1033 for being essay winners and Educators of the Year, and three were recognized for their achievements on the district level.
In the front row, from left: Alleghany High School senior Kiersten Smith, winner of Post 1033, Voice of Democracy essay contest, who finished second place in District 6; Covington High?School teacher Michele Reid, Post 1033’s Citizenship Educator of the Year who also finished first in District 6 competition; Jeter-Watson Intermediate School seventh-grader Judith Gravely, winner of the Auxiliary’s Patriot’s Pen essay contest, who also finished first in District 6.
