Outgoing Alleghany Highlands School Board Members Marie Fitzpatrick and Jacob Wright Honored for Their Service

COVINGTON, Va. (VR) – Two outgoing Alleghany Highlands Public Schools Division Board members were recognized on Monday, Dec. 16. The school board presented Marie Fitzpatrick, left, and Jacob Wright with plaques honoring their years of service. Fitzpatrick was initially appointed to the Covington City Board on July 1, 2021. She was appointed to the Alleghany Highlands School Board when Covington City Schools, Alleghany County Public Schools, and Jackson River Technical Center merged on July 1, 2022. Wright is widely viewed as a key architect of school consolidation in the Highlands. He was appointed to the Alleghany County School Board in July 2013 and became the first chair of the Alleghany Highlands School Board in 2022. He also served as the Alleghany County School Board chair before consolidation occurred. The school board also adopted resolutions honoring Fitzpatrick and Wright. (AHPS Photo)
