Art Show, Writing Contest Winners Honored

The Covington Woman’s Club recently held its annual Student/Member Art Show and Writing Contest.
The show will be on display at the Alleghany Highlands Regional Library through Wednesday, March 4.
A reception to honor the winners was held Tuesday, Feb. 21, in the library’s W.N. “John” Rice Community Room.
All blue ribbon winner qualify for judging at the General Federation of Women’s Club’s Shenandoah District meeting, to be held Saturday, April 4 in Harrisonburg. Best of the Show art winners on the district level will be displayed at the Virginia state GFWC meeting to be held later in the spring.

Judges for the art contest were Lucile Burks and Dan Rudd, while judges for the writing contest were Donna Loan, Sherry Smith and Tondalaya VanLear.
Art teachers included Courtney Horner, CHS; Burke Harris, JWIS; Kaarn Thomas, CMS; and Kaitlyn Canter, AHS. 
The writing contest coordinator for the CWC was Debbie Rose. Members of the CWC’s Art Community Service Program committee includes Bonnie Keyser and Jeanie Morrissette, co-chairs; Cynthia Baroody, Harriet Byers, Lisa Cole, Gayle Kitchen  and Carolyn Young.
The club also expressed its appreciation to Lisa Hicks and the staff of the Alleghany Highlands Regional Library for lending the community room for the exhibition.
