MILLBORO – Thomas Henry “Tommy” Fridley, 82, of 11070 Douthat State Park Rd., Millboro, died Thursday, April 8, 2010 at his residence.
He was born March 31, 1928 in Clifton Forge, a son of the late Earnest Lee and Nannie Mae Hornbarger Fridley.
He served as a sergeant in the United States Air Force and was a retired superintendent for the Clifton Forge Fire Department, serving there for 33 years from October 1963 until April 1996.
He also served as a volunteer fireman for a number of years.
He attended Clifton Forge Baptist Church and Oak Grove Advent Christian Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Rodney Fridley and Courtney Fridley.
He is survived by his wife, Betty Watts Fridley of Millboro; two daughters, Debbie Nicely and husband Adali of Clifton Forge and Cathy Ford and husband, Mark of Millboro; two sons, Scott Fridley of Millboro and Robert Fridley and wife, Fran of Natural Well; a sister, Marjorie Taylor of Charlottesville; a brother, Donald Fridley and wife, Sudie of Millboro; six grandchildren, Sara Armstrong and husband, Eric, Nathan Nicely, Clay Ford, Ashley Fridley, Mackenzie Fridley and Bryson Defibaugh; three great-grandchildren, Brad Armstrong, Caleb Armstrong and Brittany Nicely, and a number of nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge, with the Rev. W. Pembroke Hall officiating.
Interment will follow in Mountain View Cemetery, Clifton Forge.
Pallbearers will be Robert Fridley, Scott Fridley, Nathan Nicely, Eric Armstrong, Delbert Smith, Clyde Martin, Ronnie Jones, David Kay and Tommy Fitch.
The family will receive friends this evening from 6 until 8 p.m. at Nicely Funeral Home and other times at the residence.
