RADFORD – With a leap of 6-foot-2, Covington’s Troy Helton won the boys high jump event at Saturday’s All-American Relays at Radford High School.
Helton also placed fourth in the long jump with a leap of 18-8 1/4 and ran a leg on the Cougars 4×100-meter relay team that placed fourth. Other members of the relay team are Ryan Kidd, Malik Spinner and Keenan Smith.
Kidd finished sixth in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.99 seconds, while Smith was seventh with a time of 12.03 seconds.
The Cougars 4×800-meter relay team of Johnnie Bennett, Kidd, Aaron Martin and Chad Lipes took fifth with a time of 9:41.75.
Bennett finished third in the 400-meter dash with a time of 56.84 seconds.
The Covington boys finished eighth as a team with 29 points. Floyd County won the boys meet with 97 points, while Auburn was second and Radford was third.
Devone Laws paced the CHS girls with two second place finishes. Laws took second in the shot put (35-3 1/2) and discus (95-11).
Nakayla Moore took eighth in the 100-meter dash (14.42) and fifth in the 200-meter dash (31.07), while Sade Yancey finished fourth in the 200 with a time of 30.56.
Tiffany Billups finished seventh in the 400 with a time of 1:14.89.
The Covington girls placed seventh as a team with 22 points. Pulaski won the girls event with 124 points, while Giles was second and Blacksburg was third.
